2013 American Invasion

The 2013 American Invasion of Ottawa was held from Thursday July 18th to Monday July 22nd.

For those arriving early there was there was a standard gauge railway operating session on the IPP&W Railway on Thursday afternoon. During the evening pizza ordered was ordered in. People relaxed in the crews’ lounge and enjoyed some live music by Chris Lyon and Mike Hamer.

On Friday there were two standard gauge railway operating sessions with a lunch break of grilled hot dogs and hamburgers in between.

On Saturday there were two narrow gauge railway operating sessions with a lunch break of grilled hot dogs and hamburgers in between.

On Sunday morning there was a standard gauge railway operating session for our American guests on Doug Matheson’s Northland Railway. Six axle diesels and modern rolling stock were used. Barb and Doug provided a lunch which was enjoyed in the gazebo in the garden behind their home.

Later that day most of the group travelled to Marengo, New York. In the evening Finger Lakes Live Steamers hosted a get together after dinner at their club facility.

On Monday at the Finger Lakes Live Steamers club facilities there were ride-on trains to enjoy and standard gauge passenger trains operating sessions to take part in. The FLLS club members provided lunch for the participants between events.

 

Despite the oppressive heat on the first two days and heavy rain late Friday afternoon, the 2013 Invasion was enjoyed by all who attended. Here are three, 20 minute movies shot by Chris Lyon and Mike Hamer. To watch a movie, just click on the icon in the center of the screen.

    The videos and interviews as well as seeing operations in action are great! Even though I wasn’t there this year, seeing these pictures and hearing from some of the participants helped me get the sense of what a good time was had by all who attended.
